Service Projects

Appalachia Service Project is the annual ministry that Christ United Methodist Church participates in in the hills and hollers of West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Tennessee.  The Appalachia region of these five states is some of the most poverty stricken areas in the entire U.S.  ASP is a week-long mission project whose aim is to accept people as they are and where they are, with the goal of making their homes warmer, safer, and drier.  During the week you will be pushed outside of your spiritual and physical comfort zones with intense Kingdom work using the tools of prayer, pry bars, insulation, and interaction with families and other volunteers.

Highway Clean-up

The Christ United Methodist Church Youth Group has been an active member in PennDOT’s highway clean-up program for well over a decade.  Each year we go out wearing gloves and very fashionable reflective vests looking to return our two-mile stretch of highway to the cleanest section of road in Venango County.  The contest every year for the most unique piece of trash always sparks a fierce debate!

 Applefest Parking

Applefest, on the first weekend in October, is the biggest weekend of the year in Franklin, and it has turned into the biggest fundraiser for the CUMC Youth Group.  All weekend long (except Sunday morning) we rent out the parking spaces of the church lot which are wonderfully situated a block and a half from Applefest itself.  The time of hanging out with other youth is REALLY the reason why everyone signs up to work a block of time during the weekend!  God has richly blessed us through this project every year.
